Helena CorreiaCross-Cultural Use of PROMIS: Translatability, Translation and Cultural Adaptation

In this workshop you will become familiar with…
1)     translatability assessment methods to ensure that survey instruments are appropriate for translation into other languages and for use in multicultural contexts;
2)     the steps of a rigorous translation methodology (ex: the one used by the PROMIS®, FACIT, Neuro-QoL and NIH Toolbox measurement systems);
3)     the purpose of cognitive debriefing in linguistic validation and cultural adaptation, and how to conduct it.

Expect homework!  Registrants will receive a link to a video recording to review prior to the workshop. The instructor will use the workshop time to facilitate group discussion and Q&A.

1) the growing emphasis on patient-centered care and the demand for high-quality data from patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures.

2) the theory and rigorous methodology used in developing Item Response Theory (IRT) and Computer Adaptive Testing (CATs) for PROMIS measures and testing their validity.

3) how IRT offers promise for addressing practical measurement problems in health-related research that have been difficult to solve through classical methods.
