PHO International Committee
The PHO International Committee is a collaboration of scientists and clinicians with interest in optimizing and harmonizing global use of PROMIS® instruments and related resources for research, care, and population monitoring.
The PROMIS International Committee collaborates with the PHO Board of Directors to identify, coordinate, and promote best practices to develop, translate, validate, and utilize PROMIS instruments across countries.
The PROMIS International Committee aims to identify important and emerging international issues, suggest solutions, and inform/advise the PHO Board. The committee performs and participates in global scientific and organizational activities.
Scientific activities include: developing international review standards to assess cultural relevance and cross-cultural validity of PROMIS instruments; assisting with translation, cross-cultural validation, and with review to determine if country-specific items and norms are needed.
Organizational activities include: identifying individuals who will serve as national contact points, addressing distribution rights, collaborating with national contact points to identify local solutions to ensure privacy of data, country-specific data management tools (Assessment Center) and websites, assisting with fundraising activities, and recruitment of additional international partners.
National Contact Points: Within countries or regions, selected individuals will be identified as the national contact points (1-2 persons per country). National contact points hold voting privileges within the PROMIS International Committee.
Executive Committee Leadership: The PROMIS International Committee is led by an Executive Committee comprised of a small group of national contact points. Current members are: J. Chaplin, Chair (Sweden), J. Alonso (Spain), S. Bartlett (Canada), M. Rose (Germany), Chema Valderas (UK), Jacob Björner (Denmark), Rebecca Mercieca-Bebber (Australia), C. Terwee, PHO Board Representative (The Netherlands), H. Correia, PHO Language Coordinator, U.S.). At least one member of the Executive Committee is also a full voting member of the PHO Board of Directors. A call for nominations is sent out by the PHO Board when positions become available.
General Membership: The PROMIS International Committee is generally open to all international scientists and clinicians who are involved in PROMIS-related projects. Members are encouraged to become members of the PHO.
All members of the PROMIS International Committee are invited to join quarterly teleconferences that provide an update on current projects and activities. At least one face-to-face meeting will be held annually adjacent to annual meetings of either the PHO or the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL).
The Executive Committee holds a monthly teleconference meeting.
